National Optician’s Practical Examination
The National Optician’s Practical Examination is comprised of a Spectacles only and a Spectacles and Contact Lens multiple-choice and skill examination.
Depending on specific State licensing requirements, candidates may be required to take only the Spectacles examination or both the Spectacle and Contact Lens examinations.

Requirements
Before scheduling an examination appointment, you must have already:
- Met your State’s specific eligibility requirements;
- Completed and submitted the examination registration form with appropriate payment to your State;
- Received an examination authorization email/letter notifying you that you are eligible to sit for the exam and providing you with your Candidate ID.
Scheduling
First-time test takers must create a Pearson VUE web account. Please note that the account creation may take up to 24 hours. You will be notified by email when your account is activated. When creating your account and scheduling your test, you will need your Candidate ID from the Examination Authorization Letter sent to you by the test administrator.
After you schedule your test, Pearson VUE will send you a confirmation letter listing your test date, your testing time, the address, the phone number of the test center and directions to the test center.
NDA Agreement
You will be required agree to an NDA Agreement

Failure to read/accept the agreement within the allotted 5 minutes will result in your examination ending and a forfeit of your examination fees. Please take a moment to review the agreement now so that you are familiar with it when you sit for your examination.
